INDIANAPOLIS -- It didn't take long for one of the smallest participants at the NFL Combine on Friday to make his presence felt. Dri Archer, the former Kent State running back, called his shot less than a minute into his interview session with the media.
"I'm going to break the record," the 5-foot-8, 173-pound Archer said unsolicited and somewhat forcefully about his prediction for his 40-yard dash on Sunday.
The fastest recorded 40 time at the combine is 4.24 seconds by Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnsonin 2008. Archer says his fastest time is 4.21.
Archer has had his sights set on the combine 40 record for some time. He's been training in Florida with speed coach Tom Shaw since the end of the season.
Archer isn't the first to predict the downfall of CJ2K's mark. Many have attempted -- even boasted -- in the past five years of taking the record back home with them, but none have really come close. Last year, Marquise Goodwin ran it in 4.27 seconds, which stands as the second-fastest time since 2006.
