Fantasy free agency primer: Top quarterbacks

Quarterbacks have become the driving offensive force in both the NFL and fantasy football. Yet while the pool of fantasy quarterbacks has gotten deeper in the past few seasons, that's not the case with this year's crop of free agent signal-callers.

But there will still be movement that will have an effect on fantasy draft strategies. So along with the crew at Around The League, we're looking at the names that are expected to be on the open market.

Alone at the top

  1. Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles

Vick will seek a team that will allow him to compete for a starting job. Of the QBs on the market, Vick has the best combination of skills and pedigree from a fantasy perspective. His issue will continue to be his durability. It's part of the reason he lost his job to Nick Foles. It is also the reason that fantasy owners would be wise to draft him as nothing more than a second option in 2014.

Next in line

Neither McCown nor Henne is likely to be a starter in 2014. The former could be best served to remain in Chicago where he thrived last season in place of the injured Jay Cutler. Henne could see opportunities as a backup next season, however with the Jaguars seemingly focused on drafting a new QB, the veteran's time in the Sunshine State could be over.

The rest of the lot

Matt Cassel, Matt Flynn, Josh Freeman, Kellen Clemens, Tarvaris Jackson
