Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is prepared to sit out training camp if his contract is not reworked, sources tell the Daily News.
Revis is due to make $1 million in the fourth year of his six-year rookie deal, but wants to be the league's highest-paid cornerback, surpassing the three-year, $45.3 million extension signed by Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha last offseason. Newsday reported last month that the Jets were willing to offer a contract worth more than $100 million. The deal would have added six years to Revis' current contract, averaging around $12 million per season, in addition to the $21 million he is already owed. Revis rejected the offer.
According to the Daily News, Revis is willing to violate the "30-day rule," which states that a player under contract could lose a year of credit toward free agency if he fails to report to the team within 30 days before the start of the season. Revis would have to report to Jets' training camp in Cortland, N.Y. by Aug. 10 to avoid that fate.
Revis caused a stir in June by sitting out a few plays during the team's first minicamp practice to show frustration at the pace of contract talks.
