The Tennessee Titans are expected to retain coach Jeff Fisher with the understanding that staff changes are coming, according to multiple sources.
Fisher, who will leave Nashville on Friday for Arizona to see his son, Trent, play for Auburn in the BCS national championship game against Oregon, is pushing for a resolution, with only one year remaining on his contract.
Titans owner Bud Adams announced Wednesday that he has decided to trade or release quarterback Vince Young, but he will continue to evaluate Fisher's status.
The conflict between Fisher and Young came to a head Nov. 21, when the quarterback sustained a thumb injury on his right hand, tossed his shoulder pads into the stands and told off the coach in the Titans' locker room before storming out. At that point, Fisher said Young no longer was his starting quarterback, regardless of his injury status.
"We have two critical decisions to make, the direction of the coaching staff and the future at the quarterback position," Adams said in a statement released by the team. "They are separate issues to me and will be dealt with separately."
