Ed Reed is home with his family in Louisiana, and there is no timetable for his return to the Baltimore Ravens, coach John Harbaugh said Monday.
Brian Reed -- the safety's 29-year-old brother -- apparently jumped into the Mississippi River on Friday morning to evade police in St. Rose, La. He hasn't been found, though authorities have recovered his jacket and shoes.
Reed played Sunday with a heavy heart in the Ravens' 30-7 wild-card victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The seven-time Pro Bowl safety finished the game with four tackles.
Harbaugh has begun preparation for Saturday's divisional-round showdown with the AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers, but he hasn't put any target on Reed's return to the team.
"We've left that up to Ed," Harbaugh told the *Baltimore Sun* on Monday. "I know that Ed knows this team inside and out. We haven't talked to him yet today. So I think it's going to kind of depend on the circumstances down there, what he feels he needs to do with his family. But we'll give him a lot of leeway."
Karen Reed, the mother of the brothers, said Brian Reed has a history of drug and alcohol abuse. The Sun reported that Reed was attempting to escape officers who believed they had stopped a stolen car. The family maintains that Reed was driving one of his brother's cars.
"Just keeping God first and having faith and hope," Reed said after the game. "Knowing that there's a bigger picture to life than what we've got going on here. This is a child's game that we play, and like I said, these guys helped keep me focused and keep my head in the right place. Talking to my mom and dad, knowing that they're being strong right now."
