Drew Brees confirmed Tuesday that his agent and the New Orleans Saints continue to talk about a contract extension, The Times-Picayune reported.
The quarterback, who led the Saints to their first Super Bowl title two seasons ago, is in the final year of a six-year, $60 million contract that he signed in 2006.
"They've been in discussions," Brees said of his agent, Tom Condon, and the Saints. "That's been ongoing."
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported Monday that the Saintscould place a franchise tag on Brees the next season or two if a deal isn't reached, but both parties have expressed a strong interest in working out a long-term contract.
Brees was asked about his contract situation in light of the $100 million deal that Michael Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this week.
"I did see it," Brees said of Vick's deal. "It looks like a nice contract. Obviously I don't know any of the details other than the six years and $100 million."
Brees has started 79 of the Saints' 80 regular-season games during the past five seasons. He has passed for more than 4,300 yards, completed at least 64 percent of his passes and thrown for at least 26 touchdowns in each of those seasons.
