Cris Carter probably should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but he probably shouldn't underestimate Calvin Johnson any longer.
Johnson matched an NFL record Sunday by catching two touchdown passes for the fourth consecutive game in the Detroit Lions' 34-30 comeback victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
Carter, now an analyst for ESPN, famously said during the offseason that Johnson wasn't an elite wideout, believing that he's only dominant in video games.
The sweetest irony of all? The record Johnson tied Sunday was set by -- wait for it -- Cris Carter. The former All-Pro had four consecutive games with two TD catches in 1995, with the Minnesota Vikings.
Which brings us to Matthew Stafford, the man who threw all these touchdown passes to Johnson. Stafford tweeted Thursday about this very topic.
"Does anyone think 8 tds in 4 weeks will change chris carters mind about an "elite" receiver? #megatron," the quarterback wrote.
Stafford, clearly a prophet in shoulder pads, posed the question to his 48,000 Twitter followers. But perhaps it's Carter who should answer first.
Speaking of doubters, no word from Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on if he still believes Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are better than Johnson. But Lions coach Jim Schwartz knows who he'd pick.
"I'm glad the third-best wide receiver on the Cowboys is on our team," Schwartz told The Dallas Morning News.
