Vikings waiting for answers on injured Harvin, Herrera

The Minnesota Vikings enter a new week in wait-and-see mode regarding injuries to several starters.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Monday that wide receiver Percy Harvin, who missed the second half of Sunday's 33-27 loss to the Green Bay Packers because of bruised ribs that have bothered him since the preseason, was scheduled for an MRI exam. Frazier said it was too soon to tell if Harvin would be able to play this weekend against the Carolina Panthers.

"He tried to play a few plays right before the half, more like a decoy, and by halftime, it was just too painful, so we'll have to see where he is during the course of this week," Frazier said. "We definitely need Percy on the field, but we have to be careful with his ribs."

Another starter, right guard Anthony Herrera, injured his surgically repaired left knee against the Packers. The Pioneer Press cited a person with knowledge of the situation in reporting Monday that Herrera could miss up to two weeks with a torn posterior cruciate ligament. Frazier would only say the injury is related to the torn anterior cruciate ligament that Herrera suffered last year in the same knee.

Herrera was sent for a second medical opinion.

Cornerback Antoine Winfield's status still is in question because of a neck problem that has forced him to miss the past three games. On a more positive note for the Vikings, safety Jamarca Sanford and center John Sullivan are expected to return this week after missing Sunday's game because of concussions.
