New Orleans Saints cornerback Tracy Porter suffered a neck injury in Sunday's 27-16 win over the Buccaneers and team officials said he had been taken to a hospital for observation as a precaution.
Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters after the game the information he was given on Porter was "good news" and the team would have more of an update on Monday.
"It was good to come in after the game and find out he was doing pretty good," said Payton.
Porter also offered up a favorable outlook on his status via Twitter.
"This is why I love the #WhoDatNation," he wrote. "We are one big family. I'm doing good u guys, I look forward to being back soon. I love u guys."
Porter was injured breaking up a pass play to wide receiver Mike Williams on the game's second play from scrimmage. Williams also left the game with what appeared to be a left leg/hip injury, but later returned.
Porter, the smaller of the two, appeared to take the worst of the hit. After he initially popped up to one knee, Porter was kept down on the field motionless for several minutes by team personnel before he was immobilized on a backboard and loaded on a cart to be taken off the field. His facemask was removed, and he appeared to have movement in his arms, giving the Superdome crowd a fist pump as he was carted off.
NFL.com senior writer Steve Wyche first reported that Porter was loaded directly into an ambulance, which left the stadium. The Saints later announced Porter checked out neurologically but would be kept at a local hospital for observation.
