Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips continues to improve from his Thursday surgery on his kidney and gall bladder, the team announced Friday.
"His condition has been upgraded to good," the Texans said in a statement. "Again, the family requests privacy and no further information will be released at this time."
The Texans announced Wednesday that their first-year coach would have to take a medical leave because of the operation for a condition which Phillips said was neither life-threatening nor cancerous. Phillips said he would need about a week to 10 days to recover.
Texans linebackers coach Reggie Herring will run the defense in Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.
