New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross didn't return after suffering a concussion during the third quarter of Sunday's NFC wild-card victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
Ross was injured when he was involved in a nasty collision with teammate Jason Pierre-Paul. After a Matt Ryan pass was deflected, Pierre-Paul collided with Ross when he dove for a possible interception. Both players briefly remained down on the field before returning to the sideline. Pierre-Paul didn't appear to suffer an injury on the play and later returned.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin didn't have an update on Ross after the game, saying only that "he just counted fingers for me, so I hope he'll be all right."
Rookie Prince Amukamara replaced Ross in the Giants' lineup.
The Giants also announced that running back D.J. Ware suffered a concussion and wouldn't return. It wasn't clear when Ware was injured.
Giants safety Deon Grant returned to start the second half after he had been listed as questionable to play with a quadriceps injury late in the second quarter. Grant doesn't start but plays extensively when the Giants use alignments with three safeties, with one of the safeties playing as a quasi-linebacker.
Falcons starting safety William Moore was sidelined after he left with a groin injury early during the first quarter. He initially was listed as questionable to return. Backup James Sanders replaced Moore in the Falcons' lineup.
The Falcons began the game down two defensive starters when it was announced that cornerback Brent Grimes (knee) and linebacker Stephen Nicholas (toe) wouldn't play. Grimes previously was listed as questionable, and Nicholas was doubtful.
