NFL Network's Albert Breer reported Haley is interviewing with the New York Jets for a coaching position Wednesday, according to team sources.
The former Kansas City Chiefs coach's interview comes on the heels of the Jetsfilling their offensive coordinator opening with former Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano on Wednesday. The Jets didn't waste time hiring Sparano, making the announcement the morning after Brian Schottenheimer told the team he wouldn't return to run the offense for a seventh season.
League sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora that Haley was nearing a deal to return to the Arizona Cardinals, for whom he was offensive coordinator for two seasons (2007-08) before joining the Chiefs.
The Jets also lost assistant head coach/offensive line coach Bill Callahan, who left for the Dallas Cowboys.
The Jets could be aiming for a combination of Sparano and Haley to run the offense, filling the duties left open by Schottenheimer and Callahan.
