Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano was in Indianapolis on Tuesday for an interview with the Colts about their head-coaching vacancy, according to league sources.
Pagano just ended his first season as the head of the Ravens' defense and coached the unit to great heights in the 2011 season. Baltimore finished the regular season with the NFL's third-ranked defense both in terms of points and yards allowed.
The Colts have been linked to seven other coaching candidates. Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reported Sunday that the Colts had interviewed New Orleans Saints offensive line coach Aaron Kromer. League sources also recently said the Colts held a lengthy interview with Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and planned to meet with former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress.
Former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel also has been linked to the job opening, in addition to Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. and Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
Finally, a league source told NFL Network's Michael Lombardi that Marc Trestman, the head coach of the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes, interviewed with the Colts this weekend. Trestman has been with the Alouettes since 2008. He was the Oakland Raiders' offensive coordinator in 2002 and 2003 and served in that position with the Arizona Cardinals from 1998 to 2000, the San Francisco 49ers from 1995 to 1996 and with the Cleveland Browns in 1989.
Colts owner Jim Irsay announced last weekend on Twitter that the decision on Jim Caldwell's replacement should be made by late this week.
