Johnson can become a free agent if he and the team don't reach an agreement on a deal before March 13.
League sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora last week that the two sides had exchanged proposals and were scheduled to meet sometime during the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The Associated Press, citing a source, had previously reported that Johnson and the Bills were "far" from getting something done but that the receiver doesn't expect the team to use its franchise tag to retain him.
La Canfora has written that Johnson could receive the franchise tag if a new contract is not reached.
