Whether he knows it or not, Plaxico Burress always will be most associated with his tumultuous Giants run.
The veteran receiver etched his name in franchise lore during the 2007 season, following an 11-catch undressing of the Packers in the NFC Championship Game with the game-winning touchdown grab to topple the 18-0 Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
But the highs were matched by the lows, specifically the 2008 New York nightclub shooting incident that led to a 20-month prison sentence and the end of his run with the team.
Burress, 34, signed with the Jets in July, following his release from prison. But, he told "The Dan Patrick Show" on Thursday, re-signing with the Giants never was an option.
"I made the decision personally not to go back," said Burress, who hauled in 33 touchdown passes during four seasons with the Giants. "I didn't have any animosity towards them because they wanted to bring me back. I made a decision not to go."
Burress met with the Giants before signing with the Jetsand later ripped Tom Coughlin in a magazine interview, citing the coach's cold attitude toward him after he accidentally shot himself.
That animosity seems to have dissipated, with Burress taking a more measured approach in his comments Thursday.
"It was just a situation where I just wanted to go somewhere and start over fresh," he said.
After a middling season with the Jets, Burress appears ready for another fresh start. Earlier this week, he publicly stumped to join Michael Vick and the Eagles.
