The good news for St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke is that he's one of three finalists among the bidders for Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers.
The bad news, however, might be that there could be a conflict of interest because of the NFL's cross-ownership rules.
In any event, commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday from the NFL Annual Meeting that the league is ready to act quickly.
"I have told (MLB) commissioner (Bud) Selig this, if (Kroenke) is ultimately the winning bid, then we would immediately move with our committees and our membership to have the discussion," Goodell said, according to ProFootballTalk.com. "So we would move as quickly as possible knowing that it is an important issue for baseball."
Even without an NFL team currently in Los Angeles, an issue could still exist under cross-ownership rules.
"(Kroenke) is aware of it," Goodell said. "Baseball is aware of it. It would have to be addressed by our membership."
In addition to Kroenke, the other finalists are a group led by Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson and veteran baseball executive Stan Kasten; and a group led by hedge-fund billionaire Steven Cohen and Los Angeles billionaire and philanthropist Patrick Soon-Shiong.
The winning bidder for the Dodgers is expected to be announced by April 1.
