Former Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested early Saturday after allegedly assaulting a Lincoln, Neb., police officer, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

Dennard, an All-Big Ten player, had been pegged as a second- or third-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. NFL.com insider Gil Brandt has Dennard ranked at 67 on his top 100 prospects.
"I don't remember this kid having any problems before -- at least that I knew about," Brandt said.
Brandt said Dennard's arrest could drop him as far as the fourth round, a difference that could cost him about $300,000 in salary over a standard four-year rookie contract.
Lincoln Police Capt. Jason Stille said the 22-year-old Dennard allegedly pushed and punched an officer in the head while police attempted to break up an altercation between him and another man outside of a Lincoln bar at 2 a.m. Saturday, and four police officers were needed to take the cornerback into custody.
"I'm not sure why at [2 a.m.] you're out, and what provokes you to punch a police officer," Brandt said.
Dennard was arrested after a brief struggle, and was booked on suspicion of third-degree of assault, third-degree assault on an officer and resisting arrest. He is expected to remain in Lancaster County jail until bail is set at a hearing on Monday.
