LeSean McCoy is just 23 years old, but Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid said it's probably about time the team backs off on the amount of touches per game it gives him.
"I probably overplayed (LeSean) McCoy a little bit, even though he doesn't want to hear that. As he continues to get older and have the number of reps under his belt that he does, you'll want to back off the number of reps that he does," Reid said at a news conference Saturday after the draft, according to the team's official website.
McCoy started 15 games for the Eagles and carried the ball 273 times for 1,309 yards and a league-best 17 touchdowns in 2011. He also caught 48 passes for three touchdowns and 315 yards.
McCoy is in the final year of his rookie contract and is scheduled to make $615,000 next season, but he and the team have failed to come to an agreement on terms of an extension.
Reid noted that he would have liked to have gotten the ball in backup Dion Lewis' hands more often last season. Lewis had 23 carries for one touchdown and 102 yards -- although most of those took place in Week 17, when the Eagles had already been eliminated from playoff contention.
Philadelphia picked up Kansas State running back Bryce Brown in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Brown played one season at Tennessee in 2009, amassing 460 yards with three touchdowns on 101 carries. He then transferred to Kansas State, where he carried the ball only three times for 16 yards.
