The "Dancing with the Stars" celebration tour is over, and Donald Driver is ready to get back to his day job. It sounds like his agent and the Green Bay Packers won't have any problem making that happen.
Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com writes it's a matter of when, not if Driver will be back with the team. Driver's agent, Jordan Woy, is expected to work out a restructured deal before his client hits the field again.
Driver, 37, said last weekend during a radio interview that his intention still is to retire as a Green Bay Packer.
"I'll be in Green Bay. I'm not going anywhere," Driver said. "I've always said I want to retire as a Packer, I think the organization knows that, so we're going to come together. We're going to make a decision. One, two more years, and then I'll put my cleats on the shelf and sit back in Dallas and relax. It's family."
Driver is set to make $5 million in total pay in 2012. He'll have to take a large pay cut to stay in Green Bay, and it appears he's willing to do so. Driver's agent expressed confidence in separate emails to Wilde and ProFootballTalk.com that he'd be able to work out the details of a contract when he arrives.
We'll be interested to see what kind of guaranteed money is involved in the deal. If Driver is guaranteed something, he's a safe bet to make the team. If not, he could be battling some talented young receivers just to make the roster.
