Joe Philbin: Miami Dolphins' QB race 'very close'

Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said there isn't yet a clear leader in the clubhouse in the team's three-player quarterback race.

"I think it's very close," Philbin told Joe Rose on WQAM-AM, via ProFootballTalkcom. "I think it's very close. I think they all bring different attributes to the table. I will say that the room itself, the quality of the individuals in the room, I think is excellent."

The Miami Herald wrote earlier this week that Matt Moore looked better than rookie Ryan Tannehill at Tuesday's practice, although Moore was far from perfect. The newspaper suggested Tannehill struggled. David Garrard -- who seems destined to be the No. 3 quarterback -- is home this week with his wife after his house suffered storm damage over the weekend.

We suspect that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross' prediction will come true and Moore will wind up starting the season as Miami's starter. We also suspect Philbin won't say much more than the competition is "close" until the competition is over.

They should just start "Hard Knocks" now.
