Josh Cribbs made sure Kent State's first trip to college baseball's College World Series was a special one for fans of the Golden Flashes.
Cribbs, the Cleveland Browns wide receiver and Kent State graduate, chartered a bus of fans to Omaha, Neb., to watch the Golden Flashes play Arkansas on Saturday.
"I'm going to do my part in making sure those guys have a fan base out there cheering for them," Cribbs said Tuesday. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
The trip was a last-minute idea by Cribbs, who played quarterback at Kent State from 2001 to 2004. He was pleased with how quickly people signed up.
For many Kent State fans, the bus provided a unique chance to travel to Omaha that they otherwise would not have been able to afford.
"I want to thank Josh for doing this," Akron resident Lou Laurich told Fox 8 Cleveland. "This is absolutely fantastic for me because I never would have made it."
The bus departed early Friday with 50 Kent State fans on board for the 14-hour trip.
"This is one of the most exciting weekends I have been apart of," Joe Chaffin said.
The Golden Flashes became the first Mid-American Conference team to make it to the World Series since Eastern Michigan in 1976. Another bus trip is being planned should Kent State advance to the national championship game.
