Remove Josh Scobee from the list of franchise-tagged players looking for long-term deals.
Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, NFL.com and NFL Network's Albert Breer reported Monday that Scobee and the Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to a four-year contract extension.
Scobee's deal is worth a maximum of $14.2 million over four years and includes $4.75 million in guaranteed money.
"There were certain times I had my doubts, but I always thought this would happen," Scobee said. "I know the people on the front office. They're good people. They have to protect their interests when it comes to the finances of this team. I understand that. ... In the long run, it worked out and hopefully, I'll be here a long time."
Because salary demands aren't in the same stratosphere as players in more high-profile positions, kickers don't carry the same drama in franchise-tag situations. That doesn't mean it was a painless process for Scobee, who at one point spoke out about the Jaguars' lack of urgency in getting something done.
That's all water under the bridge now. The Jaguars locked up one of the NFL's most accurate kickers in 2011, a player who hit on 92 percent on field-goal attempts, including 5 of 6 from beyond 50 yards.
As Brian McIntyre has pointed out, the contract floor and ceiling were pretty well established for the position, giving Scobee and the Jaguars a template to work off. The deal might have taken longer to materialize than expected, but it got done.
