The Eagles rocked the NFL landscape in March when they released wide receiver DeSean Jackson on the heels of a career year in Philadelphia.
Five months after making him a Washington Redskin, coach Jay Gruden -- preparing his team to face Philly on Sunday -- still has "no idea" why the Eagles let Jackson go.
"It was a curious move, yes. No question about it," Gruden said Wednesday, per CSN Philly.
"When you have someone who has that kind of production on a football team, to just let him go seems a little odd. But people have their reasons. We have no idea why (Eagles) coach (Chip) Kelly and the Eagles organization did it," Gruden said. "We just have to move forward with our decision to go after him and target a guy with that kind of speed and production. Talking to him and talking to his agent, we felt very comfortable about bringing him into our organization despite some of the reports that were out there."
Before Jackson was released, stories swirled about his attitude and work ethic clashing with Kelly's team-building philosophy. Gruden, though, says the Redskins researched Jackson's background, coming to the conclusion that taking a chance on the veteran pass-catcher "wasn't a hard sell."
"He's fun to be around," Gruden said. "I kind of like him."
