1969 — San Diego wide receiver Lance Alworth sets a professional record with a pass reception in his 96th straight game.

2002 — Indianapolis wide receiver Marvin Harrison catches nine passes for 172 yards and two TDs to break Herman Moore's single-season reception record (123). Harrison finishes the year with 143 catches.
December 16
1973 — Buffalo's O.J. Simpson runs for 200 yards against the New York Jets, becoming the first person to top 2,000 yards rushing in a season (2,003).
December 17
2000 — San Francisco wide receiver Terrell Owens sets a new NFL single-game receiving record with 20 catches in the 49ers' 17-0 win over Chicago. Owens totalled 283 yards and a touchdown while topping Tom Fears' mark of 18 receptions which had stood since 1950.
December 18
1932 — The Chicago Bears beat the Portsmouth Spartans 9-0 in a playoff game for the NFL championship after both teams finished the season with six victories.The game was scheduled for Wrigley Field, but was moved indoors to Chicago Stadium because of snow and extreme cold. Special ground rules were set up to keep the ball in the middle of the improvised 80-yard long dirt-covered field that was flanked by walls on both sides. Red Grange caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Bronko Nagurski for the game's only touchdown.
December 19
1971 — Houston safety Ken Houston returns two interceptions for touchdowns in the Oilers' 49-33 victory over San Diego to set the NFL career record with nine touchdowns on interception returns. He also sets the single-season record with four interception return touchdowns.
December 20
1975 — Buffalo's O.J. Simpson scores a touchdown (vs. Minnesota) in his 14th straight game. The streak started against the New York Jets on Sept. 21.
