1958 — Alan Ameche's 1-yard plunge gives Baltimore a 23-17 NFL Championship victory over the New York Giants in "sudden death" overtime.

December 29

1979 — Houston safety Vernon Perry sets an NFL playoff record with four interceptions in the Oilers' 17-14 victory over San Diego.

December 30

1995 — Buffalo and Miami combine for a playoff record 1,038 yards in the Bills' 37-22 Wild Card victory over the Dolphins. Buffalo rushes for 341 yards in the contest.

December 31

1961 — The Green Bay Packers defeat the New York Giants 37-0 for their seventh NFL championship in the first title game ever played in Green Bay.

January 1

1961 — The Houston Oilers defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 24-16 to win the first AFL Championship. Billy Cannon is named the game's Most Valuable Player.

January 2

1982 — San Diego beats Miami 41-38 in overtime in the highest scoring playoff game in NFL history. The Chargers jumped out to a 24-0 lead before the Dolphins rallied. Rolf Benirschke ends the game with a 29-yard field goal.

January 3

1993 — Buffalo rallies from a 32-point third-quarter deficit to beat Houston 41-38 in overtime in an AFC Wild Card Playoff, the greatest comeback in NFL history. Bills quarterback Frank Reich throws four touchdown passes and kicker Steve Christie boots the game-winning 32-yard field goal.
