New York Giants sign George Selvie to 1-year deal

George Selvie is coming to New York.

The Giants signed the former Dallas Cowboy to a one-year deal, the team announced Friday. Selvie, 28, has had 10 sacks over the past two seasons.

After cutting ties with veteran defensive endMathias Kiwanuka, the team has been desperately looking for some veteran pass rushing help to pair with Selvie's former college teammate, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Robert Ayers.

Steve Spagnuolo had his best success as a coordinator with the dominant four-headed monster of Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora and Kiwanuka and while his current crop isn't anywhere near the level of talent he had back in 2007, the Giants need to start somewhere.

John Mara recently talked about how mediocre the current crop of free agents were, and the Giants most certainly weren't interested in spending top dollar on someone like Ndamukong Suh.

But Selvie is the kind of value signing general manager Jerry Reese has succeeded with in the past, and if healthy, should provide a stable bridge for the team until they rebuild the core of their defense.
