The Dallas Cowboys are enthused by rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant's progress, and signs point to him playing in the season opener against the Washington Redskins, a source with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.
Things "look positive" for Bryant, a first-round pick in the April draft, to make his NFL debut Sunday night at Washington, according to the source.
Bryant, who was the 24th overall pick, sustained a high right ankle sprain in late July. He returned to practice last week, but he didn't play in the Cowboys' preseason finale.
Cowboys receivers coach Ray Sherman said last week that he has been impressed with Bryant's performance in practice.
"I thought he did some good things," Sherman said. "He went through special teams. He went through drills with me. Then he came out and ran some plays with the offense. I thought he looked very good. He's ready to go."
