Chargers wide receiver Legedu Naanee was arrested early Saturday in Indianapolis and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest, *The San Diego Union-Tribune* reported Monday.
According to the newspaper, police said Naanee was arrested after stumbling across a crime scene, then refusing to leave after repeatedly being asked to do so. He then "actively began to pull away" when told he was under arrest. Police used pepper spray, but Naanee continued to resist.
Naanee, according to police, had a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on or about his breath or person."
Police said Naanee, after he was handcuffed and being walked to a police car, told officers: "Do you know who I am? I am an NFL player, and I'm going to sue your ass." An officer told the newspaper he was approached by two of Naanee's companions -- he believed one was the receiver's agent -- and asked to release Naanee.
"One gentleman told me I was going to ruin his career," the officer said, according to The Union-Tribune.
The newspaper wasn't able to reach Naanee's agent, Buddy Baker, for comment. The Chargers released a statement saying: "We're disappointed to hear about the issue involving Legedu. We'll monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course."
Naanee, 27, has caught 63 passes and scored three touchdowns in four seasons with the Chargers and is expected to become a free agent, pending a new collective bargaining agreement.
