Tyrod Taylor and Philadelphia Eagles superstar Michael Vick both grew up in the Hampton area of Virginia, both played quarterback at Virginia Tech, and both have a strong arm and quick feet. All Taylor has to do now is duplicate Vick's amazing feats on an NFL field.
The Ravens rookie will get his first chance Thursday night when Baltimore and Philadelphia clash in the preseason opener for both teams, and Taylor told *The Baltimore Sun* that he's excited to face his famous colleague.
"We actually talked about it all offseason," Taylor said after Ravens practice on Wednesday. "I actually talked to him three days ago. I've been looking forward to the opportunity to play against him or his team."
"We're from the same area, we went to the same school, our games are somewhat similar. Different at times, but somewhat similar. I guess it does draw comparisons. He's one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the league. So I don't mind those comparisons. At the same time, I'm myself and I want to make a name for myself."
Ravens starter Joe Flacco will play the first quarter Thursday, but Taylor is expected to play as much as 2 ½ quarters.
In other Ravens news, the team will not be signing free-agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, a league source told the Sun. Cotchery, who played last season for the New York Jets, visited the Ravens on Tuesday. The team let Cotchery leave without signing him to a contract.
