As if the karmic retribution of Jay Cutler's NFC Championship Game saga wasn't enough, Bears fans must now deal with this: The man fired by a Chicago-area car dealership for wearing a Packers tie is killing it at his new job.
John Stone got the pink slip after he refused to take off his tie the day after the Packers' 21-14 win over the Bears on Jan. 23. Stone tried to explain that the decision to wear the tie was in honor of his deceased grandmother, who was a big Cheesehead. This apparently didn't matter to Stone's boss, who either really likes the Bears or really hates grandmothers.
Stone's plight received national attention and he quickly landed on his feet with Chevrolet of Homewood, a rival dealership. Since then, he's been a regular sales leader who's been named employee of the month on three separate occasions.
"In Homewood, everybody knows me," Stone told Fox Sports Wisconsin. "I've got a beard now, and they still know who I am."
Stone maintains a level of celebrity beyond his home turf. He said he was even recognized at a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., hotel, which just seems weird to us.
"It might come out of retirement," he said.
