Hillis tells Cleveland's fans: I hope to retire with Browns

Peyton Hillis took to Twitter on Thursday night to ensure Browns fans he's here to stay.

Cleveland's hard-running back batted away speculation that his inability to play against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 because of strep throat actually was motivated by concerns over slow contract negotiations with the team.

"I love the fans of Cleveland..the city that gave me a chance," Hillis wrote. "I play hard in every play of every game ... if I could have physically played against the Dolphins I would have. I love this city and hope to retire here."

Let's remind everyone that Hillis played the final three weeks of last season with a painful cracked rib that made breathing a problem. He's also the guy who spent the offseason roaming his hometown of Conway, Ark., with a half-ton truck harnessed to his chest. We'll take him at his word on this one.
