The Patriots must feel salty about their missed opportunities that allowed the Giants to win Super Bowl XLVI. No worries, though, fellas. You've got a trip to paradise waiting for you to take the pain away -- and it's on the house.
In what seems completely and utterly ridiculous, the Aruba Tourism Authority, with an adroit marketing touch, has offered all-expenses paid trips to every member of the Patriots' roster as a consolation prize.
"We want to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work, dedication and season-long success of the team, despite their loss," Ronella Tjin Asjoe, CEO of the ATA, said in statement first acknowledged by USA Today. "We believe there is no better place to recover after a loss than Aruba. After all, we are known as 'One Happy Island'."
Wow, further proof that, even when professional athletes lose, they still win.
At least one commenter on the ATA's web site -- the only one, actually, at the time of this writing -- feels the same way.
"I just read that you are offering a free trip to your island, to the ENTIRE New England football team. I can only say, as a frequent visitor to your island, I find this pretty insulting," Chris Gaian posted. "These football players can MORE than afford a trip anywhere they choose. But, like many others, my husband & I work long & hard to be able to save up to travel to Aruba. How about the same offer to paying customers????"
Surely, that's a pipe dream for us common folk.
