NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor simple assault after an altercation with his estranged wife, Pilar, who was arrested after the incident in their suburban Dallas mansion.
Prosper police spokesman Celso Martinez wouldn't detail the allegations, but he said the assault charge covers any act considered aggressive and could be as simple as touching or defensively jerking away from someone's grip. The charge carries a fine of up to $500 but doesn't warrant arrest.

Pilar Sanders was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge as a result of the altercation and spent the night in Collin County Jail. After her release Tuesday, she complained of being treated unfairly because her husband is a Dallas-area icon who played five seasons as a cornerback with the Cowboys and is a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
"I understand that I have very little chance of beating a Hall of Fame two-sport man that everyone seems to love and adore," she said. "I'm a full-time mom -- 100 percent for my children -- and I just haven't been given a fair shake."
Deion Sanders tweeted Monday that his estranged wife had attacked him at their mansion in Prosper, where they have separate living areas, and he even posted a photo of his children filling out police reports. By Tuesday, he had removed the photo and tweeted a new message: "Joy came this morning and we opened the door and let Joy in."
Deion Sanders filed for divorce in December, but the file is under seal, and a judge has placed both sides under a gag order. Deion Sanders' attorney said the tweets didn't represent a violation of that order because the alleged attack was a separate issue.
A magistrate judge on Tuesday ordered Pilar Sanders to stay away from their home for 60 days. The judge also barred her from threatening or harassing her husband, known as "Prime Time," KTVT-TV reported.
Pilar Sanders is a model who has appeared on several television shows, including a 2008 Oxygen network reality series about their family's home life, "Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love." The couple married in 1999.
Pilar Sanders has a $200 million lawsuit against Deion Sanders, a child from his first marriage and Prime Time Enterprise Inc. She is also suing Deion's aunt, Laura Jones, alleging Jones assaulted her in February, according to the Dallas Morning News.
