Boise State QB Kellen Moore to sign with Detroit Lions

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore is set to sign with the Detroit Lions, a source with knowledge of the situation said Saturday.

Brandt: Top undrafted players

Last year, 59 rookie free agents were on Week 1 NFL rosters. Gil Brandt lists the top 10 undrafted players who will be signed very quickly after the 2012 draft. **More ...**

Moore confirmed the news later in the day by text message, according to the Idaho Statesman#wgt=rss).

Detroit and Moore reportedly agreed to terms on a free-agent deal on Monday, according to The Associated Press.

Boise State coach Chris Petersen, who consulted with Moore as the 2012 NFL Draft wound down and the quarterback wasn't chosen, said the player and his agent "had narrowed it down to two or three different places" where he wanted to play at that point.

"After talking to those guys, they felt very confident that (Detroit) was his best opportunity to play in the NFL," Petersen said.

Moore posted an impressive 50-3 career record at Boise State, making him the winningest quarterback in college football history. He threw for 3,800 yards and 43 touchdowns in 2011 and finished his collegiate career with a MAACO Las Vegas Bowl victory over Arizona State.

In Detroit, Moore will rejoin former Boise State teammate Titus Young, who had 48 catches for 607 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie last season.

Matthew Stafford is firmly entrenched as the Lions' starter, but Moore will have a chance to win the backup job from veteran Shaun Hill.
