ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini cites "team insiders" who say the New York Jetsplan to use Tim Tebow in the red zone, where they can replace Mark Sanchez in an effort to create mismatches in the running game. Ground and pound, baby.
The story doesn't say Tebow's only role will be in the red zone on offense, but it makes sense for him to focus on it. They don't have the greatest red zone options at receiver -- especially with Plaxico Burress gone -- and they might not trust Sanchez's decision making in tight quarters. It will be difficult for teams to prepare for this kind of quarterback switch so close to the goal line.
While the strategy makes sense on paper, there will be difficulties sticking with it in reality. If Tebow succeeds in the red zone, there will be calls for him to play more all over the field. If Tebow struggles, Rex Ryan will get criticized for killing drives with his tinkering.
