There were suggestions this week that a deal was reached, which proved false. Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review heard that a deal is getting close. Now that progress could be halted if Wallace doesn't show up for work. Deadlines make deals, and the Steelers want Wallace on the field as they report to training camp.
Teammate Emmanuel Sanders, already in camp, says he doesn't expect Wallace for three to four more days. Bouchette mentions that Sanders will take Wallace's position on the field to start camp.
Pittsburgh's latest negotiating stance is designed to make a deal happen or get Wallace in to work. Wallace thus far has been unwilling to sign his $2.472 million restricted free agent tender. We'll find out this week if he's truly prepared to conduct a lengthy holdout.
