Former Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns star Jamal Lewis was jailed briefly in Clayton County, Ga., for allegedly failing to pay child support, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
According to the newspaper, the 32-year-old former running back was released shortly after midnight Wednesday after he was charged with child abandonment, a misdemeanor.
Lewis won a Super Bowl with the Ravens after the 2000 season, and rushed for 2,066 yards in 2003 -- the second-highest total in NFL history. But he has fallen on hard times since his retirement in 2009. He filed for bankruptcy in April, listing $14.5 million in assets and $10.6 million in debts.
