Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson had his bond set for $2,500 a day after his Saturday arrest on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in Davie, Fla., and is expected to be released from Broward County Jail within hours, his lawyer told Izzy Gould of the South Florida Sun Sentinel on Sunday.
"I think you're well aware I couldn't discuss anything that I've discussed with my client. At this point in time we have no comment," Johnson's attorney, Adam B. Swickle, said.
Johnson also was ordered to have no contact with the victim, Evelyn Lozada, his wife of six weeks. The incident began when Lozada discovered a receipt for a box of condoms in the couple's car. Johnson is alleged to have head-butted Lozada during the argument, resulting in a laceration that required a trip to a local hospital.
UPDATED: Johnson was released from jail Sunday afternoon and did not talk to reporters on his way out of the facility, according to the Sun Sentinel.
UPDATE II:Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin met with reporters after the team's practice Sunday and he hasn't spoken with Johnson yet.
"I have not met with Chad Johnson yet, but I do plan to in the relative near future," Philbin said. "Today, I have been focused on the football team, the 89 other players that are here today in meetings and practice. At this point, and until I speak with Chad directly, it would be premature for me to make any comments about the situation. So I will leave all comment in regard to Chad and this particular situation at that."
Philbin later added that he would meet with Johnson "sooner rather than later," according to The Palm Beach Post.
