Reports: Colts eye CB, not Maurice Jones-Drew, in trade

Jim Irsay tweeted Thursday night that the Indianapolis Colts were working on a big deal for a "SERIOUS Vet/starter." Irsay pumped up the possible acquisition and said the Colts would give up a high pick and cash in the deal. With that information, there were just two logical options as trade targets: Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

Breer: Outside perspective on MJD

What do opposing league execs think about Maurice

Jones-Drew's stalemate with the Jaguars? Albert Breer talks to four. **More ...**

Applying logic to a Jim Irsay tweet can be hazardous.

Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports that the Coltsweren't talking trade about Wallace or Jones-Drew. (Which should make MJD happy.) The report also ruled out Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins and Baltimore Ravens cornerback Cary Williams.

Phil Richards of The Indianapolis Star, meanwhile, reports that the Colts are targeting a cornerback. Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis could be an option. Davis makes some sense from both the Colts' and Dolphins' perspectives. He's a talented player who could use a fresh start somewhere. Richards reports the talks are in a holding pattern, so there might not be any more news for a while.

Unless, of course, Irsay makes up something.
