New York Giants cut D.J. Ware after five seasons

D.J. Ware appeared lost in the New York Giants' running back shuffle this summer. Now he has been removed from the equation entirely.

The Giants cut Ware on Friday, Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger reported, ending the back's run with the team after five seasons.

Ware's preseason started well, as he rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown on five carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But after gaining just 15 yards on 11 carries the following week against the New York Jets, Ware slipped off the radar.

The Giants appear ready to enter the regular season with Ahmad Bradshaw as their starter and first-round draft pick David Wilson as the backup. Fourth-round draft pick Andre Brown and second-year pro Da'Rel Scott round out the group.

Garafolo reported that Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Brown and Scott "distinguished themselves" in the team's preseason finale. Ware -- given no carries -- never got the chance.
