Two days after his arrest on DUI and speeding charges, Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner is in the "Somber Public Apology" phase of his fallout.
"Any time that you're in a situation like this, you don't want this to happen," Turner said Wednesday, via The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "You try to keep a clean slate throughout your whole life like everyone else. Unfortunately, this happened and I just have to move forward."
Turner was arrested Tuesday morning, just hours after the Falcons defeated the Denver Broncos on "Monday Night Football." He must enter the NFL's substance-abuse program as a first-time offender. He said he plans to play Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
"Nobody has told me that I'm not playing, so I'm just going to prepare like I am," Turner said.
It's been an inauspicious start to Turner's ninth pro season. In addition to his off-the-field issues, Turner appears to have been minimized in Atlanta's pass-happy offense. In two games, Turner has carried the ball just 28 times for 74 yards.
His 2.6 yards-per-carry average is unlikely to leave the Falcons second-guessing their decision.
