We handle all the big injury stories throughout the day on Around the League. Everything else you need to know goes right here, on the most popular weekly injury report rundown that knows coffee helps you think.
- The San Diego Chargers should get back two of their offensive leaders. Running back Ryan Mathews (clavicle) has a great chance to play despite being listed as questionable. He fully practiced all week. Tight end Antonio Gates (ribs) is probable.
- St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson is questionable with a groin injury despite not practicing all week. Guys usually don't play if they don't practice, but Jackson is known for superhuman feats. We'll see.
Rapoport: Week 3 game rankings
What's the best matchup of Week 3? The worst? Ian Rapoport ranks this week's games in order of intrigue, from 1 to 16. **More ...**
- Fear not, fantasy owners. Atlanta Falcons wide receivers Julio Jones (thigh) and Roddy White (knee) are listed as probable despite missing practice early in the week. Star linebacker Sean Weatherspoon is questionable with a thigh injury. Well, he should be a star.
- The Chicago Bears will be without their best offensive player, running back Matt Forte. Coach Lovie Smith insists Forte does not have a high ankle sprain. Their best defensive player, Julius Peppers, is probable.
- New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller (hamstring) is listed as questionable after returning for a limited practice Friday. We'd be surprised if he faced the Dolphins. Cornerback Darrelle Revis was cleared to play. He's probable after sitting out last week with a concussion.
- Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon will not play against the Cincinnati Bengals, NFL Network's Michelle Beisner reported. Safety Brandon Meriweather could be back. He's questionable with a knee injury.
- The Detroit Lions remain without safety Louis Delmas (knee). Tight end Tony Scheffler (calf) is doubtful, so fantasy owners of Brandon Pettigrew (big dude) can celebrate.
- Oakland Raiders cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) is out. With Ronald Bartell also out for the season, Oakland's weak cornerback group is weaker. Viva Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace!
Jeremiah: Six matchups to watch
Week 3 features many marquee matchups. Daniel Jeremiah has the lowdown on Brady-Reed, Norv-Nolan, etc. **More ...**
- As we wrote earlier, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (hip) and offensive tackle King Dunlap (hamstring) will be among the missing starters for the Philadelphia Eagles when they face the Arizona Cardinals in a surprising battle of unbeatens.
- Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt didn't announce a starting quarterback for Sunday, but Kevin Kolb is fully expected to have the job after taking starter snaps all week. John Skelton (ankle) is questionable. He could be available in a backup role, but we doubt it.
- The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing it safe with their bye week coming up. Linebacker James Harrison (knee), safety Troy Polamalu (calf) and running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) all remain out.
- New England Patriots killer Bernard Pollard (chest) is ready to go for the Baltimore Ravens despite some concern early in the week. He's probable.
- We tend to ignore the Patriots' injury report because they list half their team as questionable with limited participation, so there's no sense trying to make sense of any of it. We'd keep an eye, however, on guard Logan Mankins. He was added to the injury report Thursday with a hip problem and is questionable. Mid-week additions are never good.
- Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie (concussion) looks ready to go after a few false starts. He's probable. Linebacker Dwight Freeney (ankle) is questionable, but he didn't practice all week. It would be a surprise if Freeney played.
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are totally healthy except for right tackle Jeremy Trueblood (ankle). We just wanted to present some good injury news for a change.
- The Bengals remain without first-round draft pick Dre Kirkpatrick (knee). That is especially problematic because their best cornerback, Leon Hall, is questionable with a calf injury after missing practice Thursday and Friday.
- The Dallas Cowboys will be without center Phil Costa (back), nose tackle Jay Ratliff (ankle) and defensive tackle Kenyon Coleman (knee). Safety Gerald Sensabaugh (calf) is doubtful.
