For the second time in two weeks, an Atlanta Falcons star player has been arrested. Both times, it happened shortly after a big win.
Falcons defensive end John Abraham was charged with obstruction of firefighters and obstruction of police officers Monday night, the Atlanta Police Department told NFL.com and NFL Network. Both are misdemeanor charges.
Abraham is in custody at the Fulton County Jail, and his bond has been set at $7,000, according to the jail records.
The incident is an odd one at first glance. Officers responded to a call regarding a woman threatening to jump from a building, and Abraham arrived and entered an area restricted by crime-scene tape.
Abraham refused to leave the taped-off area when asked by authorities to do so, police said.
Officer John Chafee said it wasn't immediately known if Abraham knew the woman.
"We are aware of the news regarding John Abraham," the Falcons said in a statement. "We are in the process of gathering more information and we will have no further comment at this time."
In short, this arrest isn't as serious as running back Michael Turner's driving under the influence from a week ago. But it probably feels pretty serious to Abraham, who was transported to Fulton County Jail.
The Falcons would like to stay undefeated as long as possible, but they surely hope this streak of arrests after wins ends at two.
