The Green Bay Packers' fan base has never been accused of apathy. On the morning after the Monday night debacle, a handful of fans were seen gathering outside Lambeau Field in protest of their team's bitter loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Call it a small, but dedicated, rebellion. WGBA-TV in Green Bay told NFL Network and NFL.com that six people were seen huddled outside the stadium. That number is expected to grow.
"I'm disappointed with the integrity of the game," Tyler Detke, 22, told the Green Bay Press Gazette on Tuesday morning.
The league's replacement officials find themselves at the center of a growing storm after Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson's last-second pass into the end zone was labeled a touchdown by one referee and an interception by another. Utter chaos followed.
Tuesday's band of Packers faithful are calling for an end to the NFL referee lockout. They were greeted with horn blasts and cheers from passing motorists, many on their way to work.
"We're trying to get the (original) refs back," Seth Wagnitz, 24, told the newspaper. "With the refs that we have now, they're not qualified to do the job like the other refs are. They're high school and college officials."
The protesters appear to have a high-powered friend supporting their cause. "After catching a few hours of sleep, the #Packers game is still just as painful. #Returntherealrefs," Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker tweeted Tuesday.
