Mario Williams might have wrist surgery during the bye week, a source told Tim Graham of The Buffalo News.
The Buffalo Bills defensive end has 3.5 sacks after he signed a six-year, $100 million free-agent contract during the offseason. Williams has admitted his left wrist has been an issue. The Bills had no comment on the topic, though coach Chan Gailey is expected to address the injury Wednesday.
"I need to play better and I need to get healthy," Williams said Sunday. "It's No. 1 on my point.
"I can say this, and you can take it however you want to take it, but it really don't matter to me. I really don't care what you think. At the end of the day, I know I need to get physically back into things so I'm not hesitating."
At least there's an excuse for Williams' lack of production. The Bills didn't back up the Brinks truck for his performance thus far. The team's scoring defense wasn't supposed to rank No. 31 in the NFL.
Bills fans hope the wrist is the problem.
UPDATE: Williams had surgery on his wrist, Gailey said, and should be able to practice next week.
