Fines roundup: Alphonso Smith docked for horse-collar tackle

Detroit Lions cornerback Alphonso Smith was fined $15,750 by the NFL for his horse-collar tackle on Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall, adding insult to injury to a Week 7 game in which the Lions fell 13-7.

The Bears didn't escape without incurring fines of their own, however. Marshall and fellow wide receiver Earl Bennett each were fined $10,500 for wearing orange cleats, a violation of the NFL's uniform policy.

Other fines announced Friday:

» Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson was docked $21,000 for an illegal blind-side block against the Minnesota Vikings.

» The Baltimore Ravens were fined $20,000 for violating the NFL's procedure for reporting injury information. Safety Ed Reed wasn't listed on the team's injury reports, despite him admitting he had a torn labrum in his shoulder. Another safety, Bernard Pollard, was fined $7,875 for his unnecessary-roughness penalty against the Houston Texans.

» Washington Redskins offensive lineman Tyler Polumbus was fined $7,875 for a leg whip.

» Cleveland Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson was fined $7,875 for unnecessary roughness after a late hit against the Indianapolis Colts.

» Dashon Goldson was docked $7,875 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The San Francisco 49ers safety was cited for taunting the Seattle Seahawks.

» Carolina Panthers safety Charles Godfrey was fined $7,875 for a chop block in a game against the Dallas Cowboys.

» St. Louis Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan drew a $7,875 fine for grabbing the facemask of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson on a tackle that incurred an unnecessary-roughness penalty.
