San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith did not break the NFL's single-game record for completion percentage, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Smith completed 18 of 19 passes in Monday night's 24-3 shellacking of the Arizona Cardinals, one pass shy of the minimum 20 attempts needed to qualify for the record. Tuesday, the 49ers asked the NFL to review a fourth-quarter toss to Michael Crabtree that was ruled a lateral.

We said Tuesday that the pass looked like a lateral, and the league apparently agreed.
Smith's near-pristine performance came on the heels of two shaky games, which woke some of the old questions about the 49ers quarterback's ability to lead his team to a championship. Head coach Jim Harbaugh described those rumblings as "just gobble, gobble, gobble turkey from jive-turkey gobblers" in his postgame news conference.
Current NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner remains the single-game completion percentage record-holder. He earned the record during his stint with the Cardinals when he completed 24 of 26 passes (92.3 percent) against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 20, 2009.
