Our world and this website were quieter Sunday with the New York Jets hidden away on their bye week.
The already super-hushed Tebow Zone came to a grinding halt; the weekly picking apart of quarterback Mark Sanchez was set aside for more productive pursuits; and we also focused on legitimate playoff contenders.
"I can't tell you how excited I am," Ryan said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News on Monday. "I know we're not where we want to be. We're not even close. We're not sniffing the playoffs. We're not sniffing anything right now. But I want to get there. I'm excited about the prospects in front of us."
Ryan told Mehta he isn't switching quarterbacks, but he used the bye to patch up areas of concern. Ryan borrowed from Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton's suggestion box and allowed his assistants to offer tweaks of every flavor and variety.
"We will be doing some different things," Ryan said. "I don't want to get into the specifics of it ... If there's an advantage to be gained, then I want to gain that advantage without letting our opponent know. I'm excited about trying to implement some of these things."
Added Ryan: "I'm not going to say that they're radical."
Maybe not this week, but radical changes -- not tweaks -- can't be far away if the Jets continue their underwhelming path through what's rapidly becoming a lost campaign.
