The NFL fined Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller $21,000 for hitting Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton below the knees during last week's game, The Denver Post reported Thursday.
The play happened with 3:15 left in the fourth quarter when Miller was knocked down, then crawled before hitting Newton low, drawing a roughing-the-passer penalty.
"How am I supposed to know if he threw the ball or not?" Miller said, via The Post. "I was down on the ground -- actually the guard facemasked me and threw me into the quarterback. I'm supposed to what? Stand straight up and continue with the tackle?"
Miller, who says he will appeal, wasn't the only Broncos player to be fined for a hit on Newton. Defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson was fined $15,000 for his horse-collar sack of the Panthers quarterback, according to The Post.
