Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy out for Philadelphia Eagles

Don't expect to see Michael Vick or LeSean McCoy on the field for the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

Vick and McCoy -- who are both recovering from concussions -- sat out practice Saturday and won't play against the Carolina Panthers, coach Andy Reid announced after the session.

This isn't a surprise in either case. Vick only recently was cleared to begin Phase 3 of a 5-stage concussion recovery testing, and the Eagles aren't exactly in a rush to move rookie Nick Foles back to the bench. As for McCoy, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Friday that Bryce Brown would be the starting running back against the Panthers.

With the Eagles postseason hopes all but dead, the team isn't going to rush their two biggest stars back from head injuries. Even if they wanted to, Vick and McCoy must complete the NFL-mandated concussion recovery protocol to get cleared for game action.

That always sounded unlikely for this week.
